This is a question I often get, "what order do I apply my makeup in?" The answer may surprise you...there isn't a specific order.  Yes, there are some things you should apply before others, but when you get down to it I think most people will have a different order.  I will list out here how I apply makeup for a FULL COVERAGE APPLICATION but know that if you switch things around or eliminate steps, it's ok! :)

Here is the order I apply makeup in:
1. MOISTURIZER - preferably a moisturizer that has an SPF

2. PRIMER - after the moisturizer sets in a bit, I put on the face primer.  If you didn't read my last blog post, check it out to find out "ALL ABOUT FACE PRIMERS" here...

3. EYE SHADOW PRIMER - I put a small amount on my eye lids so my eye makeup will stay all day without creasing! I love eye primers, they work the same as a face primer but is targeting just for eyes when you put on eyeshadow.

4. EYE SHADOW / EYELINER/ MASCARA / FALSE LASHES - I usually use 3 to 4 colors every time I apply eyeshadow.  I will do a blog post in the near future on how to apply the shadow.

5. WIPE UNDERNEATH YOUR EYES - use a makeup wipe to clean off any product that may have fallen under your eyes.

6. FOUNDATION - Apply your foundation with a sponge, brush or your fingers. Make sure it's blended really well and blended into your hairline and under your jaw.

7. CONCEALER - Use under the eyes and on any blemishes.

8. SETTING POWDER - Using a setting powder will help your foundation and concealer stay put all day.

9. CONTOURING - Using a darker shade of contouring cream, bronzer or a dark concealer to contour the areas under your cheek bones, temples, along hair line, and under the jaw. Than blend it in using a sponge or kabuki brush so it's not a harsh line.

10. BLUSH - apply to the apples of your cheeks

11. HIGHLIGHTER - Use right at the center of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and on the tops of your cheekbones.  You can use a shimmery eyeshadow like "phloof" from MAC or use a highlighting stick to apply.  Again, blend in.

12. LIP LINER, LIPSTICK & LIPGLOSS - Apply the lip liner either just on the perimeter of your lips or go a step further and fill in your lips to help your lipstick stay longer during the day.  Apply lipstick, blot if necessary and put some gloss right on the pouty part of your lips to make them stand out even more.

This may seem like a long list but remember this is for a full coverage application.  Some days I only apply mascara and that's it.  It's up to you.  Hope this useful to you.

Have a wonderful, fun day!  Remember how beautiful you are!

If you have never tried a makeup primer, I can guarantee you will love it.  Primer is used all over your face, much like your moisturizer (and has the consistency of a moisturizer) and is used to make your foundation and concealer look less cakey, its used to minimize your pores, fine lines and even blemishes.  It's like a miracle in a bottle. ;)

I currently use MAC Prep+Prime.  I've tried a couple other types before but I really do like this one because it feels just like a moisturizer yet gives my skin a beautiful, smooth coverage.  It's also odorless which is nice when using it on my clients.

If you do have larger pores, you may want to try Benefits POREfessional Face Primer.  It does not make your pores go away altogether but it does minimize the size of them and also acts to fill in fine lines.

If you have oily skin, the MAC Mattifying Gel is known to reduce the oil on your face.  Don't be scared by the 'Gel' in the name as it does leave your skin with a matte, dry look all day.

A great one for photo's is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, which also smoothes out your skin evenly.  It also distributes collagen, and fills in fine lines and pores for a beautiful, flawless finish.

Primer is used on your face after you apply your face moisturizer.  Give your moisture a bit of time to set in first before applying your primer than apply your foundation or concealer or whatever your wonderful routine is.  Primer can also be used alone without makeup on top for just a smoother look.

Another use for face primers is to thin out your foundation.  If you are wanting a more sheer coverage or more of a moisturized, dewy look than mix your liquid foundation together with your primer than apply it on your face.

Have a wonderful weekend!

My new favorite lip balm

Recently I went to Bath & Body Works with a very dear friend of mine. She told me about their "My Favorite Night Balm" lip balm and how it is amazing for overnight use.  I am always on the lookout for an awesome lip balm that actually works well.  I've been using other products that leave my lips feeling like they NEED the lip balm every couple of hours and if I don't they become chapped so quickly. Or I wake up in the morning and my lips feel like the skin can peel off in chunks.  Gross, I know.  So I tried this balm, the one in the dark blue and I absolutely love it!  I applied it before bed and in the morning my lips felt moisturized.
While I was at Bath & Body Works I picked up two more balms, the "Mentha Lip Shine" with 100% Natural Vanilla & Mint and the "Lemon Lip Cream", which I love both of those as well.  They don't feel sticky rather they feel moisturizing.
Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!
